SPANISH CLASSES

Parent and Toddler Spanish Classes

Children in this class don't sit still for long! Accompanied by parents or caregivers, these young "students" (ages 2 to 3 years)  start learning Spanish through a variety of activities designed to engage their minds and bodies. Classes last 45 minutes! Our toddlers become great friends with Cosmo, our dog, participating in his crazy adventures right alongside him and his friends, the Lango Kids. Music and movement form the foundation for the classes, as the children sing simple, rhythmic songs and dance, run, spin and jump around the room! Meanwhile, our teachers work with the accompanying adults, teaching them age-appropriate games and activities so that they can reinforce learning at home. Get ready to immerse yourself too as we speak in Spanish the entire class! These "play-classes" are great for parents and caregivers who want to learn Spanish alongside their children!

Attention: For the best outcome in classes, no food of any kind, toys or external elements are allowed in the class. Additionally, we recommed that there is a parent per every child in class. Having a second sibling in class could be distracting for the parent and the child, so it's best if the parent's undivided attention is given to the child and the teacher; remember that parents are in the class to help, to be active, and to learn as well!

Heads-up! 3 years old is our cut-off for this level. After 3, kids are moved to our afternoon classes so the interaction happens among other kids and the teacher (Sorry parents, but kids really do very well on their own in terms of behavior and language when they turn 3).

  Preschool to Kindergarten

Kids ages 3 and 4 join us in the Transitional Spanish class. Transitional Spanish is a drop-off class designed to meet the linguistic and developmental needs of kids that have completed 1 year of classes in the Parent and Toddler level, kids that have had language exposure at home or school, or kids who have had no prior exposure to the language but meet the age requirement. This class is packed with play, singing, and movement and it's a class designed to easily help our young learners transition into a longer drop off class when they turn 4. This class does not require the presence of parents and it is 1 hour long.

SPANISH I (Ages 4-6)

Ideal for children that have had little or no exposure to the language. At the end of the session they will be able to sing, and say simple expressions and sentences in Spanish. In addition, they'll know all the content of the session, not only in isolated words, but also words and expressions in a real context. Since most of the kids at this age, do not read or write yet, our 1 and a half hour classes will be divided into two segments: 1 hour of Lango Method class and content reviewing, and half an hour of organized games and fun activities for kids to have more exposure and acquire more language naturally (shh they don't know it...we do!).

SPANISH 2 (Ages 6-8)

Ideal for children that have completed 3 full 10 week sessions and at least 4 weeks of camp with us or equivalent knowledge through immersion exposure. Kids are placed in this level after being assessed by one of our teachers. At the end of the session students will be able to sing full songs, write, and hold simple conversations in Spanish. In addition, they'll know all the content of the session, not only in isolated words, but also words and expressions in a real context. Our 1 and a half hour classes will be divided into two segments: 1 hour of regular Lango Method class and content reviewing and half an hour of Spanish phonics, fun grammar and reading for kids.

Early Elementary and Elementary School Ages 7 to 11

Our early elementary and elementary students learn Spanish through adventures, and activities that require increasing levels of engagement and understanding over time.  The literacy component of this classes ensures that these students not only listen, speak, sing, and play in their new language, but read and write as well.

LEVELS

SPANISH 1 LANGO CLASSES (Ages 7-11)

Ideal for children that are outside of the window of opportunity for language acquisition and who have had little or no exposure to the language. Our Lango curriculum provides a very solid foundation and a great reacreational approach to language learning. At the end of the session they will be able to sing, and say simple expressions and sentences in Spanish. In addition, they'll know all the content of the session, not only in isolated words, but also words and expressions in a real context. Since most of the kids in this age group can write, our 1 hour and a half classes will be divided into two segments: 1 hour of class and content reviewing and half an hour of Spanish phonics and fun reading for kids.

SPANISH 2 COLEGA CLASSES (Ages 7-11)

Colega is a more rigorous study of the language but keeps a fun and conversationsl component that we believe it's crucial in the learning of the language. Ideal for children that have had previous exposure to the language through our classes and Camp Lango, or  interaction in the language at home and want to increase their level of language production. At this level, children are formally introduced to reading and writing. Kids need to be assessed in order to register for this level.

Pre-requisists for Spanish 2

If a child is ready to a Spanish class II due to previous exposure to the language, an informal assessment is required to make sure this level is right for the child. Call us to schedule the assessment!

SPANISH 3 and SPANISH 4 (Ages 10-13)

Ideal for children that have experienced the Lango Method for  2 complete years and that have experienced at least 4 weeks of Camps. Also, this level is ideal for children that have had exposure to the language at home, in our classes or camps, or at school and want to continue practicing the language, interacting with other speakers, and learning more about the cultures where Spanish is spoken. Children at this level are able to read and write in the target language, and are tested to be reading at level H.

EXPRESIONES

Ideal for kids ages 10-13 who have been exposed to Spanish through our classes, and camps or come from a Spanish speaking household. Kids in this class are well on their way to being fully bilingual and prove to be have a 60-80% fluency in Spanish. We help them by putting together theatrical plays and complex dialogues so that they can become even more expressive and develop more specialized vocabulary in the target language. In an artificil enviroment for Spanish like the one we live in, kids tend to forget their Spanish as all they hear from friends and teachers is English. They either avoid speaking in Spanish, or start combining the two languages to communicate. We make sure kids at this level learn to love the language and the activities we design for them, and use the language properly. If your chid meets these requirements, join us. Here is what they achieved in our Spring 2012 session
