Summer and Winter Camps

Summer Camp 2020

We are excited to announce our Camp Lango 2020! Camp Lango began in 2010 (See all years of camp here) and continues growing in relevance, quality, and popularity today. This year we have 2 separate sections and locations: Full days of "Spanish Only" Camp at Irvine Valley College and Full and Half Days of "Spanish Only" Camp at our school in Irvine. With us, campers understand the language, speak it, and ultimately… love it and live it! Students get to spend their summertime having fun, being engaged, and taking pretend trips to different destinations of Latin America and Europe. At Camp Lango each week is a new destination. Without lost luggage and jet lag, we are able to "visit" these places and learn about their traditions, recreation, and cuisine. Each week ends with water games for campers and a presentation for parents, family, and friends. Extended care in the morning and afternoon is available for FREE between 3 and 5pm at an affordable price. Join us!

Grouping: This year, due to program restructuring and construction at IVC, we were assigned only 2 classrooms. Therefore, we'll have 2 levels of fluency in our full day program at IVC: basic (Group Cosmo*) and intermediate  (Group Luc*) and the advanced students (Group Lucia*) go to Lango where we hold our classes.  If you have a student who you think might be a candidate for an intermediate or advanced class, please call us (714-864-4680) to request an assessment. At our half day camp at LangoKids Irvine we'll be offering only one basic level of Spanish for ages 5 to 7.

*Group Cosmo: My child is 5-7 years old and has had no experience in the language or has some experience through classes, immersion schools or speaking it at home.

*Group Luc: My child is 7-9 years old and has had no language exposure or has some experience through classes, immersion schools or speaking it at home.

*Group Lucia: My child is 8-12 years old and has had minimum 4 years of classes or language exposure at home or at an immersion school. Assessment for this level is required.

If submitting your registration by mail or at the office please print your Registration Form. Submit  it no later than June 1st and only if you know there are spaces available.

It's important to emphasize that we are not a daycare in Spanish. We are a language school interested in acquiring students of families who care about language learning, for whom we have created a comprehensive, fun, and accelerated program in the summer. As in everything, the more time and effort you put into something the better the results will be. Registrations of 2 consecutive weeks are the minimum requirement, but know that the results are very limited. Week one (no matter when you start) is a cultural shock everybody needs to go through and in week second kids are a little more adjusted but still have a long ways to go. Two weeks are never enough to understand and converse in Spanish, but at least four or five are. We do all we can and when parents are committed and as passionate as we are, magical things happen at camp! Parents of kids who haven't had much exposure, are encouraged to purchase weeks early rather than later in the program. NO week is a prerequisite for the next, in fact, all topics are different, but for those who have stayed longer, we do revisit topics from other weeks and knowledge does build up. For this reason, we do not allow registrations that start the last 2 weeks of the program.

When you bring a child to us, you are entrusting your child to experienced professionals in the area of language teaching. Cristina holds a Bachelor in Modern Language Teaching, a Specialization in Bilingual Education, a MA in English and World Literature and is a credentialled Spanish teacher. Additionally, she is the mom of 3 fully bilingual kids. She hires only the best teachers with a genuine love for Spanish and for kids, classroom experience, and may times, they are moms of bilingual kid as well. We all walk the walk you have started or are about to start!

Summer camp is our favorite time of the year not only because it's so nice out, but also because it's very gratifying to see how much campers accomplish in only 7 weeks. In fact, a camper is able to achieve in 7 weeks, what a student at Lango accomplishes taking one class a week for a year and a half or so. That's how good we are, or better yet, that's how good those little minds are given the intensity, input, and motivation.

Every week we give our campers a new book with all the activities we learn throughout the week. They receive it on Monday and they take it home on Fridays so parents can review concepts at home. Every day we work on a different project (crafts, cooking, building projects) and kids bring those projects home. Ask your camper about the craft; we are sure they'll have a great story to tell!

Safety is first for us. In the summer IVC offers less classes, therefore they get less students. We are located in an exclusive area and our students don't have contact with adults other than our teachers. During bathroom visits no child of ours goes to the bathroom alone and nobody is unsupervised. We all go in groups with the teachers. At times when it's not a collective bathroom break students go with Maestra Cristina herself or her assistant. We can assure you they are safe with us! Additionally, IVC does a fantastic job providing security and assistance through their Campus Safety Team. Thre is a police officer circling our camp several times everyday and enforcing the parking policies.

We are getting all our material and curriculum ready for camp this year. Here are the booklets that we  produced and used last year. This year's themes are going to be super fun as well! We sure hope you can collect them all. The more books campers have, the more learning they'll get!

Libro 1 2019 (2).pdf Libro 2 2019.pdf Libro 3 2019 (1).pdf libro 4 2019 (1).pdf Libro 5 2019 (1).pdf libro 6 2019.pdf libro 7 2019.pdf

Each book has about 15 pages and it comprises all the content of the week (theme, destination, a fun page, additional vocabulary). The final page of the book tells parents all the questions students are able to respond to and the vocabulary campers know by the end of the week. Collect all books this summer!

Camp Lango in Irvine is the place where your child will acquire a language, be safe, grow, and make friends while enjoying the summertime. Our theme of each week goes along with regular camp activities which culminate with a celebration and performance for parents and friends on the last day of the week. Don’t miss out! Join us for at least 2 cosecutive weeks or for the entire summer. The experience and the language acquired will never be forgotten!

Week 1: June 22- June 26 Where the Wild Things Are/ Donde Viven Los Monstruos

Who isn’t familiar with this awesome story? People say it’s a children’s book, however, adults can’t fully comprehend the essence of this story.  Many thesis works and books have been written to try to dig into the intricate world of Max and the terrible creatures he encountered. While getting my MA in English, I took an entire class to try unveiling the mystery and I discovered there’s a lot to learn from the story than we imagine. We want to present this story to the kids this week and show the literal (for little ones who cannot comprehend quite yet) and the poetical side( as a challenge to our older students) of the story and transform our perception of it. We’ll learn about Maurice Sendak’s inspiration to write this and other stories and try to see the world and children the way he did. Sendak was playful with words and his imagination was beyond measure. Kids have also an infinite storage of imagination and our goal is to stimulate it, fold it, unfold it, challenge it, and grow it. Join us this week for a fantastically imaginative and fascinating beginning of camp.

Destination of the Week:  Peru

Week 2: June 29 - July 3 It's a Party in the USA/Una Fiesta en Estados Unidos

Yes, this is the week we honor our country and all it represents and stands for. We need to celebrate because it’s the birthday of the USA. This holiday marks the day our great country was founded as a nation, a nation that influences the world and serves as an example of democracy and freedom for all. The Fourth of July sure is a wonderful time to celebrate family, community and the things that make our country special, but should also be a great opportunity to get creative with the kiddos. At Camp Lango, we have planned a really fun and educational week to teach children what it means to be American. We’ll show them a kid-friendly version of the Declaration of Independence, the quintessential American document. Campers will enjoy some outdoor fun and do relay races, a water balloon fight between Americans and the British and finally, we’ll do fun flag activities and learn about the heroes that helped shape this great country. It’s short week but we’ll learn a lot from beginning to end! Join us!

* IVC Campus will be closed on Friday July 3rd in observation of 4th of July. This week's tuition cannot be prorated.

Destination of the Week: Washington DC

Week 3: July 6 - July 10 Once Upon a Time in Latin America/Erase una Vez en Latin America

Many kids are fascinated by fairy tales, folktales, tall tales, myths, ghost tales, and all kinds of stories from around the world. We've gathered up a great (and not so scary) selection of stories to wow our campers and also to teach them more about the culture of where those legends come from. Remember that Latin America is the birth place of magical realism. There are a lot of real instances that occur in towns and cities, but it’s just more fun to disguise that and make it look fantastic. The reason? Well it can be superstitions people have or the need of people to create stories to better cope with reality. This allows for an incredible array of stories that get born and transformed as they get passed down generation to generation. We’ll share with the students some stories and recreate them for parents and friends to learn and enjoy as well. Join us this week for a week of stories, imagination, and folklore!

Destination of the Week: Colombia

Week 4: July 13- July 17 Lango's Got Talent/En Lango Hay Talento

You have talent, I have talent, we all have talent! Everybody is created uniquely and in a gifted manner. Kids may not be aware of this yet, but they have a talent in the raw waiting to be found and shaped. This week we’ll present our campers with endless possibilities in which they can shine with their own light. This week they will be the ones wowing us with their talent. We’ll open the space (and the stage) for them to show us what they can do. We’ll have creators of all kinds so you can’t miss this week. Join us and take a glimpse into your child’s future, it’s a spectacle worth attending!

Destination of the Week: Puerto Rico

Week 5: July 20 - July 24 Let's Work Together/Trabajemos juntos

After a week of self-discovery, it’s only necessary to see how our own gifts and talents play along with those of others.  LangoKids Irvine wants to cultivate in our campers a team mindset since they’ll be expected to work well with others at schools and in their careers. Developing an appreciation and seeing the beauty and even the not so pretty parts of team work is important to give society a well-rounded individual.  We’ll encourage each camper to use his/her strengths to meet the team goals since, as we learned the week before, every child has something special to contribute and everyone can stand out while still maintaining a team mindset. This entire week the kids will be exposed to hands-on team projects and friendly competitions. The purpose is to build an environment with friendship and common effort because as we know, we are better together. This week will be great! Don’t miss out.

Destination of the Week: Panama

Week 6 July 27 - July 31 Fun with Food/Divirtamonos con la Comida

This week we are encouraging our children to use their imagination and express it in the cooking projects we have prepared this week. We know things can get a bit messy when little hands pitch in, but it’s worth it to see our proud, confident campers tasting and showing off their culinary achievements. Our senses will be loaded this week as well as our minds as we talk about what food makes us healthier and stronger. Join us for a real treat to your taste buds, bodies, and minds!

Destination of the Week: Mexico

Week 7: Aug. 3 - Aug. 7 Aquatic Science Adventures/ Aventuras Acuaticas

This week we want to invite you to bring your child to come and experiment with us. Campers will develop different hands-on projects that use water to learn more about it and the environment. We'll talk abut marine animlas and oceans, engage in STEM based learning, and connect with other students wo share their love for all things aquatic. We promise to engage our campers' five senses and keep them curious about the activities of the week. At the end of the week, we'll do a summer camp finalization celebration and gues what..the main actor will be WATER! Get ready!
