Meet our LangoKids Irvine Director and Teachers!
I am Cristina G. Versteegh, owner and director of LangoKids Irvine. I am a native Spanish speaker from Colombia. I moved to the United States to pursue my Master's degree in English and World Literature after having two other degrees: Specialist in Bilingual Education and Bachelor in Modern Languages Teaching. I have been teaching for 15 years, although it feels like a lifetime. My father is a teacher and I grew up seeing who he is as a teacher and what he does day after day with so much dedication and love. I finished my studies in PA and came to live in CA. Here, I enjoy my free time doing fun things with my husband and sons. We share our time playing indoors or going on outdoor adventures like hiking, running, off-roading, traveling, eating local and international food, and watching movies together. When I am on my own, I like exercising, reading, connecting with God, visiting with friends and family, and I have to admit it...thinking about work and how to improve our services. I love having the satisfaction of the work well done and want to be able to satisfy the needs of the people I work for at Lango: the kids, parents, and of course the teachers, who are a vital part of our project. My son speaks perfect Spanish and now is acquiring Chinese and French effectively and rapidly given his short age. He sure makes his dad and I very proud for how smart and open minded he is. Watch a few of his talents below and remember, your child can do it too:
My advice to you is, when looking for a language program ask if the owner has fully bilingual kids at home. We support you well because we live it and we love it! My child and your kids are the reason of our existence and I thank you for entrusting them to us. I look forward to meeting you and your kids and share a session full of smiles, games, words in foreign languages, giggles, songs, dancing, and much more.
I am Carla Barrios, I'm from Mexico. My interest for children education lead me to become a teacher, graduating with honors from Normal Colegio Ensenada, and earning a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I have 9 years of experience working with kids at at the kindergarten and preschool levels and served one year as school principal in Mexico before moving to California with my husband and two children. I am creative, dynamic, enthusiastic and positive. I believe this is the best approach to passing my knowledge on to the students. I like to use games, song, dance, and dramatization; these techniques foster self-confidence and a natural way of learning. Ever since my arrival to this country several years ago, I have dedicated part of my free time to study English at Saddleback College and take other classes in Education, so that I can prepare myself and continue my passion for teaching. I have worked for LangoKids Irvine since 2008 and it's truly my pleasure to teach Spanish to your children in a fun and natural environment like the one we provide at LangoKids Irvine.
I am Maestra Sonia Cuenca, I'm a Spanish language teacher born in Colombia. I first came to the United
States in 1992. I completed high school in Anchorage, Alaska in 1996. I returned
to Colombia to teach elementary and high school English, then founded my own
English-speaking schools - American Language School and American Language
Institute. While teaching and running my schools, I studied at and received a
Bachelor’s Degree in English Studies, in 2001, from Universidad Surcolombiana
in Neiva, Colombia. I continued teaching at my schools until I had a health issue that made me retire from my position temporarily. I always looked forward to teaching Spanish or English again, so I came back to the United States in 2012 to
continue my career and my passion of teaching children Spanish as a second
language, preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century. I am the
mother of two wonderful boys, Juan Sebastian and Santiago and in my free time I
really like going to the movies, cooking and driving. I look forward to many adventures and experiences with your kids at LangoKids Irvine!

I completed sixth grade here and then all my High School years at Garden Grove High School. In addition to this, I earned my Associate Degree in Liberal Arts at Santa Ana College. It was then, when I realized that I wanted to work with kids. I majored in Psychology and Spanish and received a Bachelor’s degree from California State University of Fullerton. I lived in Melbourne for one year and another year in Sydney, where I attended Macquarie University. Bonjour! My name is Madame Sophia and I teach French at LangoKids. I’m from the South of France (Marseille) and have been living in California for 5 years. I hold a Baccalaureate in French Literature and foreign languages, and also a DEUG (Diplôme d'études Universitaires Générales) in Psychology with a specialty in child development from the University of Provence Aix-Marseille. I also have substantial experience working as a teacher’s assistant with elementary school children. My own exposure to different people, cultures and languages from around the world has inspired me to want to share my own language and culture! Teaching diversity to children through new languages and cultures gives them a leg up in their academic and personal lives. I am very patient and enthusiastic about working with young children in a serious but enjoyable environment such as LangoKids. I am a passionate and talented teacher who loves teaching kids through fun and new activities in each of my lessons, so don’t hesitate to join us in this unique linguistic experience.
